Call for gunfire leads to foreclosure of George Fox University in Newberg | Local News

NEWBERG, Ore. (KPTV) – A gunfire call that turned out to be a “very drunk” man firing shots in the air caused a lockdown at George Fox University in Newberg on Friday afternoon and caused panic at a nearby aquatic center.
Newberg-Dundee Police Chief Jeff Kosmicki told FOX 12 that police responded to a possible shooting in the 1800 block of Orchard Drive just after 12:20 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, they learned that the man with the gun had likely fired shots in the air and not directly at anyone. The Man’s House is near the intersection of Orchard Drive and Villa Road.
Kosmicki said police attempted to contact the man with the gun after he stopped shooting and entered the house, but they got no response. The officers who responded believe the man is “very drunk”. The police have left the area and let the man “sober up” before trying to contact him again.
George Fox University students were ordered to take shelter in place while police investigated.
Emergency alert posted on George Fox University website
The emergency alert initially said to follow the “run, hide, fight” protocol if the shooter is in the area and “take cover immediately”.
The second update indicated that the school was awaiting more information from law enforcement on an “off-campus” incident. Students were told to continue sheltering in place.
No injuries were reported, Kosmicki said.
