COVID NY Update: Young Adults Eligible for Full Bursary in New York Public Schools with Vaccination
“Get a Shot and Make Your Future” is a new campaign launched on Wednesday.
Cuomo says young people between the ages of 12 and 17 are the least likely to get the vaccine, and they also have the highest percentage of positivity. This group is also by far the lowest percentage of vaccines in New York.
The state will raffle on a weekly basis full scholarships for tuition, room and board at any public college or university for four years. It will only be among young people aged 12 to 17 who will be vaccinated.
From Thursday to July 7, any 12 to 17 year old who receives their first dose of Pfizer can enter the raffle.
Ten four-year scholarships will be awarded by drawing lots every Wednesday.
“People who get the vaccine earlier have a greater chance of winning because they are eligible for every draw each week,” Cuomo said. “It’s not just the people who get it that week, once you get the vaccine you get into the pool. If you take a vaccine earlier you have a better chance of winning because you will be in the first week, second weekly pool, etc., so get vaccinated and receive it early. “
Laureates will receive up to four years of full-time undergraduate study or five years in an approved five-year bachelor’s degree program that includes the following:
-Tuition fees: An amount equal to the tuition fees of the State or the City University of New York.
-Out-of-school costs: Room and board and allowances for books, supplies and transportation up to average cost at SUNY Colleges.
-Residence: Students living on campus will receive a higher accommodation and board allowance than suburban students. If housing is not available for students on campus, they will receive the same allowance as students living on campus.
On May 12, Cuomo accepted the recommendation of the New York State Clinical Advisory Working Group to immediately implement the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Expanded Use Authorization for 12 to 15 year olds. All children aged 12 to 17 who have been vaccinated are eligible for the incentive, regardless of when they received the vaccine.
