WARRENSBURG – As was done in December, the University of Central Missouri hosted 10 launch ceremonies for spring and summer 2021 graduates.
About 1,940 undergraduate and graduate students walked through the stage May 7-9 in the multi-purpose building.
This debut is the first during the year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the university in 1871.
“On May 10, 1871, UCM officially opened its doors to students as the State Normal School for the Second Normal District,” Board Chairman Stephen Abney said. “Since then, we have a long tradition of students achieving their career goals. We are proud of our faculty, of our staff who throughout history have shown their resilience and persevered in advancing higher education in this university. We owe a debt of gratitude for this commitment and the dedication of members of our UCM community who continually seek ways to turn obstacles into opportunities for students to make higher education thrive on this campus. This has been especially true this pandemic year, as we deeply appreciate all the efforts that made it possible to celebrate your graduation. ”
The UCM postponed and later canceled early spring 2020 due to the pandemic, then implemented restrictions and increased the number of ceremonies for early fall 2020.
The university continued to implement the same guidelines for spring 2021.
