Football adds transfer GK shorts
NORMAN – Oklahoma Head Football Coach Marc Carr announced the addition of Nebraska goaltender Makinzie Short on Tuesday.
Short, who will have two years of eligibility with the Sooners, joins OU after three seasons in Nebraska where she totaled 18 starts and over 1,700 minutes played.
“We are delighted to welcome Makinzie and her family to OU,” said Carr. “With Nikki (Panas) and Leah (Radow) graduating, we had to move quickly to add a quality goalie as we begin to rebuild our ‘GK Union’.
“Makinzie was exactly what we needed. She is an experienced top level goalie who has a great foundation. We believe with (GK coach) Maryse (Bard-Martel) our high performance environment and the application of Makinzie and his relentless attitude to improve everyday, anything is possible. “
The Erie, Colorado native started a total of 18 games in her second and junior seasons as a Husker and had 62 saves and seven shutouts. In 2021, Short started eight of the Huskers’ 18 games and recorded 32 saves and three shutouts.
“I choose to end my college career at the University of Oklahoma because OU is committed to helping me take my athletic and academic achievements to the next level,” said Short. “I fell in love with school right away and couldn’t be more excited for my new home.
“The second I entered campus, the coaches and staff treated me like family and started investing in me and my future. Coach Carr is building something special at OU, the football program is top quality and the commitment to a championship and a positive culture is second to none. I can’t wait to start my new journey and win a championship in OU. “
A product of Peak to Peak Charter School in Lafayette, Colorado, and Real Colorado Developmental Academy, Short also played club football for FC Boulder for five years.
Short will join the Sooners in 2022 with all 10 members of the 2022 signing class.
