NASHVILLE (WSMV) – Christion Abercrombie, former football player at Tennessee State University, graduated after recovering from a serious brain injury.
On September 29, 2018, Abercrombie sustained a brain injury in a game against Vanderbilt.
Abercrombie began taking online courses to complete his degree and was among the 900 graduates who received degrees at the spring launch ceremonies.
âI feel very happy and fortunate to graduate from TSU undergraduate degree,â Abercrombie said. âI thank my parents and everyone for their prayers and support.â
âChristion was not expected to live on,â said Frank Stevenson, associate vice president of student affairs and dean of students. âToday he graduated and God is good. We celebrate his life. “
Staci Abercrombie said she was grateful to the faculty and staff at TSU for welcoming her son while he finished his classes.
âOur family feels the favor of God to witness such a blessing. Every day is a gift and we give all the praise to God, âshe said.
Christion’s father, Derrick, shared his wife’s feeling of seeing their son receive his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies.
“It’s a great accomplishment, for anyone really, but especially for him who has gone through what he has been through,” he said. âWe feel really proud.â
