Four tournaments announced for fall 2021 roster
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Director of Athletics, University of West Virginia Shane Lyon unveiled the four tournaments that make up the fall 2021 tennis calendar.
“We are very happy to be back on the courts and to participate in a full roster of tournaments this fall,” said the coach. Miha Lisac noted. “We have a lot of work and development ahead of us and we will use the tournaments to prepare for the spring season.”
The Mountaineer tennis team begins its fall campaign in Charleston, West Virginia, where WVU is expected to co-host Thunder in the Mountains alongside Marshall University for the second time since 2019. The three-day tournament is expected to co-host take place from September 24. -26, while West Virginia and Marshall host Villanova, West Virginia State University, Radford and St. Francis.
WVU will then travel to Lynchburg, Va. October 1-4 for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional Tournament. This year’s regional conference is hosted by Liberty University.
The following week, the Mountaineers return to Morgantown to host the Martha Thorn Invitational October 15-17. WVU is expected to host James Madison University, Louisville and Penn State in its annual tournament.
Martha Thorn passed away in April and WVU plans to honor the late Coach Thorn at the tournament.
“It’s great to have a tournament named after and dedicated to a coach like Martha,” said coach Lisac. “She meant a lot to this program and it is only fitting that the tournament is in her honor and in her memory.”
West Virginia wraps up its fall season in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the Big 12 Individual Championships Nov. 5-7.
