How much would it cost to go to Hogwarts in 2021

Find out how much it would cost to attend the Harry Potter School of Witchcraft and Wizardry at Hogwarts in real life during the 2021 school year.

Harry potter fans finally know how much it would cost to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in real life. Dreams of entering the walls of the enchanted setting first filled the minds of readers when JK Rowling changed the landscape of literature with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1997. Seven books and a whole movie franchise later, Hogwarts remains a fantastic destination for Potterheads the world over.

Universal Studios made fans’ wishes come true in 2010 by opening The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, a pair of theme parks in Orlando, Florida that brings the whimsical universe to life. A replica of Hogwarts has been erected as the Mecca of the location of the Islands of Adventure, serving as a hub for the movement-based dark ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Voyage. This is considered the closest for fans to walking around the sacred halls in real life.

Anchor the dream even more in reality, Pont-Oxford calculated the numbers to give fans a total cost to attend Hogwarts in 2021. Reference prices in the universe from Harry potter novels, the learning provider added fees for essentials like uniforms, magical equipment, and books. After converting the costs of the seven years into American coins, they found:

“The true cost of attending Hogwarts in 2021 would be £ 7,336.92, or 1,467 Galleons, 6 Sickles and 22 Knuts in magic money. That’s $ 10,353.47 in US dollars and € 8,506.95 in euros.”

To attend Hogwarts, one must purchase at least 48 items, from uniforms to books. Students should also factor in extra pocket money (for lenient trips to Hogsmeade) and travel money. The latter is apparently the highest cost, totaling $ 5,136.91 for the 7 years. In contrast, chopsticks are surprisingly affordable. Harry himself dropped 7 Galleons on his own in 1991, which would amount to $ 113.01 in today’s world. It’s a good deal to be able to levitate objects on a whim.

Buying a broom is another big slice of the total, costing around $ 1,614.45 (or 229 gallons) for a mid-range model. Of course, most Muggles would drop that in a second for the dreamy ability to soar high into the sky. Harry was lucky when it came to this piece of equipment. Although his Nimbus 2000 was destroyed by the Whomping Willow during a Quidditch match against Hufflepuff, an unnamed benefactor gave him a Firebolt racing broom for Christmas.

Apparently it cost around $ 8,108.97 when Harry, Ron, and Hermione walked the halls. The 2021 price increase is due to inflation, but it is still quite small. In fact, $ 10,353.47 for seven years of schooling is pretty much unheard of in expensive US academia. For those wondering why tuition fees weren’t factored in, it’s because there isn’t. Harry potter Creator Rowling confirmed in 2015 that Hogwarts does not charge tuition. After all, nothing is more magical than the word free.
