NORTHAMPTON Co., NC – A man was arrested and charged with first degree murder in connection with a shooting Wednesday night that left a 34-year-old woman dead and a 47-year-old woman in critical condition.

According to the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting took place at 11:05 p.m. at Arrowhead Mobile Home Park in Woodland.

When MPs arrived at the scene, they found Angelec Wiggins, 34, suffering from gunshot wounds outside a residence, where she died of her injuries. The second victim was taken to a local hospital, and his name and information will not be released at this time.

The sheriff’s office on Thursday obtained arrest warrants for Keith Hyman, 44, in connection with the homicide.

Hyman fled his Windsor residence to escape law enforcement before police arrived at his home. Officers surrounded the area and, after a three to four hour K9 trail through nearby fields and woods, Hyman was located and taken into custody.

He is currently being held in Northampton County Jail where he has received warrants for one count of first degree murder, one count of attempted first degree murder, two counts of assault with a lethal weapon with intent to kill, two counts of assaulting a woman and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted criminal.

Sheriff Jack Smith thanked the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Office, the Narcotics Division, the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office and the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the investigation, and urged the community to “find a peaceful way to resolve any problem before thinking about violence.”
