Rice University student lands dream job at EA Sports despite challenges of employment pandemic
“With things being more digital now, you can network a lot more easily. That’s how I got my internship, networking on LinkedIn,” said Taylor Crain.
HOUSTON – Despite the pandemic and virtual learning, the 2021 class did. College graduates will soon cross the scene and enter the national workforce.
Rice University student Taylor Crain is among those who will graduate on Friday. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in English.
“I won’t claim that a lot of people, like teachers, would say, ‘Are you sure you want to do this for college?” Crain said. “But I think people need to understand that storytelling is the under- behind everything. “
Crain is writing the next chapter in his story.
“I would say my story is to know yourself and stay true to yourself,” she said.
She did so even when the 22-year-old was unsure of landing an internship last summer due to the global pandemic.
“I thought about it, and it’s like, you know, doing what I usually do. Build a network. Be sincere. Be genuine, ”Crain said. “And since things are now more digital, you can network much more easily. That’s how I got my internship, networking on LinkedIn. “
Electronic Arts, one of the world’s largest video game companies, offered Taylor a virtual internship last summer. She has shone so brilliantly online, EA has created a position for her, Positive Play Coordinator.
Rice University is working to highlight Crain’s story in an upcoming issue of Rice Magazine.
Meanwhile, she and her friends are celebrating their next opportunities.
“Some of us are going to like a scholarship, some of us go straight to the job market, some of us get our masters, our doctorates. even, ”she said.
The story of this next generation could well be: “A turning point. It is a turning point, I think, culturally, generational and globally in that we are more globally aware of our impact on each other and on the planet.
Well done to the class of 2021! May your resilience and hope be as endless as your opportunities.
