Scientists stabilize plasma at 50 million degrees, soon promise nuclear fusion energy
A company called TAE technologies claims it could generate power from nuclear fusion by the end of the 2020s, bringing us closer to a sci-fi future.

Nuclear fusion is believed to be the only way to provide the world with almost unlimited clean energy and a minimal carbon footprint. But it is believed that the technology for practical application is still years away.
however, TAE Technologies shares that it has developed a new technology capable of generating stable plasma at temperatures above 50 million degrees Celsius. The technology comes six years after TAE proved that its reactor design was capable of sustaining plasma indefinitely.
The new Milestone, however, showcases the kind of temperatures it can operate safely and successfully. These temperatures are necessary to adapt the reactors for commercial use.
According to Press release, this success shows that the company’s compact linear configuration improves plasma confinement as temperatures rise.

TAE says it has now validated that the company’s unique approach can adapt to the many conditions to deliver an economically viable commercial fusion power plant by the end of the decade.
The new technology is a proof of concept for a lifetime of working for Normal Rostoker, one of the co-founders of the company who has also spent his entire life developing hands-on nuclear fusion research. Rostoker passed away on Christmas Day in 2014, at the age of 89.
TAE CEO Michl Binderbauer said in the press release: “This is an incredibly rewarding milestone and a fitting tribute to the vision of my late mentor, Norman Rostoker. Norman and I have written a article in the 1990s, theorizing that a certain plasma dominated by energetic particles should become increasingly confined and stable as temperatures rise. We have now been able to demonstrate this behavior of plasma with overwhelming evidence. “

Binderbauer added: “This is a powerful validation of our work over the past three decades, and a very critical step for TAE to prove that the laws of physics are on our side.”
The most recent announcement helped the company raise $ 280 million in additional funding. To date, TAE has raised over $ 880 million from investors around the world.
