Softball Drops Series Finals at WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Marshal softball team lost the final game of the weekend series to the WKU Hilltoppers, 10-0, on Sunday. Next up for the Herd is a game against the Radford Highlanders on Wednesday, April 27, with the first pitch at 6 p.m.
The Thundering Herd fall to 30-13 overall and 12-6 in Conference USA. The Hilltoppers improve to 30-9 overall and 13-5 in the league. WKU is now at the top of the Eastern Division standings and Marshall is second.
Junior red shirt sydney nest started in the circle and pitched in the third. She allowed five hits and six runs. First-year student Bub Feringa entered the game in the third and pitched in the fourth allowing five hits and four runs. Second year Brianna McCown faced the last three batters allowing one hit and striking out two.
The Herd Bats struggled on Sunday, recording just three hits. Fifth year senior Aly Harrell had a right hit for the 210th hit of his career. She is ninth all time. It was also Harrell’s 50th hit of the season, a career high. Senior Mya Stevenson had a single for his 47th hit of the year and 162nd of his career. Second year fall owen had the other hit, his 40th of the season and 128th of his college career.
The Hilltoppers scored two in the first, then four in the third and four more in the fourth.
After Marshall’s game at Radford, the Herd returned to Dot Hicks Field for their final home games of the season. The UTEP Miners travel to Huntington for a three-game series, April 29-May 1, for senior weekend. The Herd will honor its seniors Saturday on the field before the game. Friday’s first pitch for Game 1 is set for 1 p.m. The first pitch of the senior day on Saturday will also be at 1 p.m. Sunday’s series finale is scheduled for a first pitch at 12 p.m.
