Manav Bharti University (MBU), Solan, fake degree racket is not only confined to India, it is also spreading to foreign countries. It appeared that agents would have followed people wishing to go abroad and wishing to obtain diplomas attesting to the required qualifications.

Some students applying for jobs in countries including Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Kuwait allegedly bought fake diplomas from MBU, an investigation by CID’s SIT has revealed.

Interestingly, the university even sold diplomas of courses it did not offer. The maximum number of titles and diplomas sold to aspirants going abroad belonged to the engineering sector. A large number of people wanted to get jobs as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc. in these countries.

Himachal Police have written to other states asking them to share details of fake degrees identified by them. Fake diplomas were sold in 13 states including Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Kerala , Karnataka, etc., for Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh, depending on the duration of the course and the importance of the degree.

The conduits reportedly shared the buyers’ names with university officials, and the university’s former registry kept a separate log with entries of bogus degree cash transactions. Agents deposited daily receipts with university officials.

Meanwhile, a plaintiff from Karnataka informed that around 250 fake grade sheets of various disciplines were sold by a state agent who acted as a mediator after getting a fake diploma for himself. During the investigation, SIT arrested 12 of the approximately 20 senior officers.
