The second round stopped at the Windon Memorial with MU in third
GLENCOE, Illinois – The Marquette University men’s golf team is three strokes ahead, and Eichhorn Hunter is a shot back individually, with the second round action stopped at the Windon Memorial Classic at the Lake Shore Country Club.
The Golden Eagles are one of five teams that couldn’t finish the game Monday night due to sunset and are 7 under par, behind Notre Dame at 10 under and South Florida at 9 under.
Eichhorn is tied for second with three other 5-under and is even through 13 holes in the second round after starting his day with a first-round 5 under 66. The Carney, Michigan native is the champion. title of the event and was alone in first place at the end of Monday’s first round. He had four birdies in the first round with an eagle on the 13th par-5 hole, before ending his round with a bogey on the 18th par-4.
He had a birdie at the start of the turn on No.9 on his second lap and a bogey on No.10.
First-year student Max Lyon was in the top 20 with a first round of 68 that included five birdies, but registered a pair of doubles in his second round to fall back into a tie for 39th. Including his first round and 13 holes in the second, he is 1 over par for the tournament.
Junior red shirt Tyler leach also had five birdies in Monday’s opening round and is currently No. 2 in MU, tied for 20th at 1 under par. It is through 15 holes of the second round.
Nicolas Evangelio is tied for 29th evenly (par 14 holes in the second round), while Aidan Lafferty is tied for 66th at 6 above par (up to 16).
The conclusion of the second round will take place at 7:30 am Central Time on Tuesday morning, with the action of the third round scheduled to begin at 8:15 am CT.
Eichhorn won the previous event in 2019 after shooting an Under 6 207 at Conway Farms. The then junior shot a 6-under-65 with eight birdies and a 5-under-66 without a bogey in the first two rounds.
The Golden Eagles also won the Windon Memorial as a team in 2018 behind a third-place Oliver Farrell at 7 below par, and Tyler leach equal performance. In 2007 at Lake Shore, MU All-American Mike Van Sickle shared medal honors with an Under-7 206.
