Zendaya on the Set of 100 Degrees Euphoria Season 2 Scene
- Warning: There are major spoilers ahead for Season 2 of HBO’s teen drama “Euphoria.”
- Zendaya told Insider about a memorable scene from episode five that took a lot of running.
- The actress said she filmed the scene in 100 degrees in Los Angeles and it was “atrocious.”
Zendaya said filming the second season of HBO’s hit series “Euphoria” was “very memorable,” but there was one moment in particular that stood out.
“We had to shoot this whole running or chasing sequence with Rue, some of which happened during the day, in the middle of LA when it was like 100 degrees and something,” said Zendaya, who portrays Rue Bennett in the film. show, to Insider.
Although the scene was filmed in a controlled environment, it was still nerve-wracking, the actress said.
“We have a wonderful stunt team who are very, very safe and always take good care of us,” Zendaya explained. “But it was very scary because they were all stuntmen, but they had to roll towards me and stop as I was running in the middle of the street, which was, mind you, 100 and something, 110 degrees, which was excruciating to stand there. And I was running around all day.”
Despite the scorching weather, Zendaya said it remained “a fun memory as I wasn’t the only one running” as the crew accompanied her on a cart track to track her movements.
“My team was with me running in the middle of the street and we sympathize together, sweat together,” she said. “So I’m very grateful to our crew. I wasn’t alone.”
The aforementioned scene, previously teased in a season two trailer, takes place during Sunday night’s episode of “Euphoria.”
In episode five, Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer) tells Rue’s mother, Leslie (Nika King), that Rue has relapsed and secretly taken drugs.
Leslie finds Rue’s suitcase of drugs, unaware that her daughter acquired the drugs from a dealer named Laurie (Martha Kelly) as part of a business plan, and throws them away.
As Rue spirals and frantically searches the house for drugs, she becomes violent and gets into a physical altercation with her younger sister Gia (Storm Reid) and her mother.
Rue eventually begins to cry, admits she wants to keep clean but can’t, and apologizes for scaring her family. Then it’s revealed that Jules and Elliot (Dominic Fike) have also been in the house the whole time and heard Rue’s anger.
Rue, angry and betrayed by her friends, calls Elliot a “damn snake” and lashes out at Jules, calling her a “damn rat” for telling her mother about her drug use.
After telling Jules she was “dead to her”, Rue walks out of the room and collapses on the floor crying.
Rue agrees to let Leslie take her to the hospital. But during the car ride, Rue learns that her mother’s intention is to send her back to rehab.
An argument ensues, with Rue trying to explain that the chances of her getting sober are desperately low. Rue jumps out of the car at a red light and is immediately thrown into traffic as Leslie and Gia panic.
The rest of the episode shows the drug-addicted teenager running through the night as her withdrawal symptoms kick in. At one point, she is chased by the police and crosses traffic again to avoid getting caught.
The episode ends with Rue finally returning home the next day at sunrise.
The second season of “Euphoria” airs on HBO Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
